Part 2: Become a Fitness Diva

So, you’ve started on your journey to becoming a Fitness Diva with a body that causes jealousy from anyone who sees you, have you?

If so, fantastic!! If not, what are you waiting for?

So let’s dive right in.

One of the most important things to stress when you are going to be jogging and weight training is that you ease into your training.

Yes, I mean not going on 20 minute jogs to start or lifting heavy weights at the beginning of your training. But I am also meaning that you need to warm up before you even start ANY sort of exercise.

Before you go on a jog or before you go on a run, you need to make sure you have done a little warm up (skip rope, or run at a slower pace etc) until your body has warmed up a bit.

Then you have to take time to stretch your muscles.

Always – Always – Always warm up before you stretch. Never stretch your muscles when they are cold. Always jog or do something active and warm your body up first BEFORE stretching.

Make sure that you stretch all the muscles in your body, but take special care to warm up your legs and lower back.

In addition to stretching, do some deep knee bends (or squats with no weight), and some back raises with no weight until you can feel the muscles become a little more warm.

With some practice you will be able to feel the difference between your muscles being “warm” and your muscles being “cold”. You never want to do any sort of exercise when your muscles are cold, or you risk injuring yourself.

Now, in terms of your weight lifting, you will need to start with a very light weight, and gradually increase the weight on each set that you do after that.

So, for example, if you are doing bench presses with only the bar for a warm up, then add 2.5 pounds per side after each set.

When weight training, make sure that you increase the weight you use gradually. It’s ok to start with weights that seem “too light” for you when you are just starting out.

The most important thing is to get used to the movements you are doing when lifting weights. Then, once you are comfortable in the movement, to slowly increase the amount of weight that you use.

Fitness and training progress is measured over the long term. Your results will be shown in how consistent you can maintain the amount of exercise you do each day and each week, not necessarily by how much you lift.

If you don’t have any weights at home or are scared to go to a gym, you can always do various exercises dedicated to strengthening your core in the comfort of your own home.

So, whatever you do – don’t forget to get a nice warm up in before you exercise. You will lessen your chances of injury this way.

Remember – the key to success when losing weight and becoming a Fitness Diva is to consistently exercise and stick to your routine.
